Highlights of FOT

Faculty of Occupational Therapy has started the ICONS OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY in which the students of FOT are divided into group of four under the guidance of faculty. The icons are as follows:

• The Slaggles
• The Smiths
• The Nimbkars
• The Duntons

Faculty of Occupational Therapy has been actively involved in encouraging and highlighting the potential of student through various activities few of the activities are listed below:

• Faculty of Occupational therapy organized Drive Against Drug Abuse and World Mental Health Day celebration on 10-10-2022 at MAHER- auditorium. Shri.Aravindhan, IPS, Zonal Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, Government of India was the chief guest for the occasion. The chief guest along with Vice chancellor of MAHER inaugurated the Helpline for Drive Against Drug Abuse and also gave an insight on how drugs are affecting the current generation. Dr.Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal FOT gave a talk on Substance dependence and mental health- Impact and solutions. The students of FOT showcased various events like mime, dance, music and mini movies. Students also gave a talk on Drug free society – Role of students. Poster making, rangoli competition and slogan writing competition was also conducted for MAHER and its constituent colleges.
• Faculty of Occupational Therapy participated in SRFOTCON’22 conducted by Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research. This event was conducted from 20/12/22 to 22/12/22 on the theme “Opportunity + Choice = Justice”. 62 students from FOT participated in the three-day session which included Scientific session, National level Inter college Sports and Cultural meet. The students from FOT participated with zeal and enthusiasm and brought laurels and accolades to the college. The students won in 17 events which included 2 in Scientific sessions, 8 in Sports meet and 7 in the cultural events.
• Faculty of Occupational therapy organized WORLD AIDS DAY on 01-12-2022. Dr.Deepa Sundarewsaran, Principal,FOT delivered the welcome address. Dr.Lilly Christopher, Dean Student Affairs was the chief guest for the occasion. The chief guest gave an insight about AIDS. Ms.Lubna Saeed, Intern FOT, briefed about AIDS and clinical manifestations in AIDS. Mrs.Jayabharathi, Tutor,FOT gave a talk on Occupational Therapy management in AIDS. The students of FOT participated in QUIZ competition conducted with the topic AIDS.
• A Rally was conducted by Faculty of Occupational Therapy on 06-01-2023 at Edward Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar, Chennai as a part of World disability day and International OT day celebration. Mr.Balamurugan, Assistant Commissioner of Police-Vadapalani, Chennai was the chief guest for the rally. This rally was flagged of by a differently abled person.The faculty and 92 students participated in this rally with the aim of creating an awareness among the public about Disability and Role of Occupational Therapy in treating them. Students distributed pamphlets to the public and also cleared their queries related to this profession and theme.

Faculty of Occupational Therapy have also conducted number of UGC guided programmes such as

• JANJATIYA GAURAV DIWAS on 15-11-2022. Students of FOT participated in the debate competition on the topic “CONTRIBUTION OF JANJATI HEROES IN FREEDOM STRUGGLE”. The students also briefed about the recognition given to the freedom fighters and unsung heroes. They also highlighted about the Unsung heroes of current generation.
• BHARATIYA BHASHA UTSAV on Janma Jayanthi of Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi on 12-12-2022. Dr.Poorani.P, Assistant Professor delivered the welcome address and gave a brief insight about Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi and also about different languages in India. Students of FOT participated in debate competition conducted on the topic “INDIA AS ONE LINGUISTIC AREA”.
• VEER BAAL DIWAS to pay tribute to the courage of the four Sahibzada of Guru Gobind Sahib Ji on 29-12-2022 at Seminar Hall- FOT MAHER. Shri.Srinath, Sr AO & PRO MAHER delivered the welcome address and gave a brief insight about Veer Baal Diwas and why it is being celebrated. Students of FOT watched a video about Veer Baal Diwas.
