Department of Pharmacognosy
Pharmacognosy is a field of study within the pharmaceutical sciences that focuses on the investigation of natural sources for therapeutic compounds, especially those originating from plants. This field is important because it offers new therapeutic agents, insightful knowledge of herbal remedies, and
state-of-the-art methods for determining the pharmacological characteristics of medications, poisons, and plant-based treatments. Modern research facilities are available in this department to conduct studies on various
pharmacognosy-related topics. Such endeavors encompass the following: the identification, extraction, and analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients derived from plants; the clarification of phytochemistry; the assessment of phytotherapeutic protocols; the application of pharmaceutical biotechnology methods like tissues and cell culture; and the development and description of herbal formulations.
