Jai Bhim Padyathra – A Tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution and the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER), in association with its National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, organized Jai Bhim Padyathra—a week-long celebration of learning, awareness, and tribute.

The event featured a series of seminars and lectures across faculties. At the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, Mrs. Kanchana, Assistant Professor, delivered a powerful talk on Dr. Ambedkar’s life and legacy. The Faculty of Occupational Therapy hosted an insightful session led by intern Ms. Archana, while the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences conducted a lecture on the Constitution’s structure and its role in safeguarding democratic values.

Taking the message to the public, the Meenakshi College of Nursing (MCON) organized a rally on April 14th at Chikkarayapuram, Mangadu. Forty-five B.Sc. Nursing students marched to raise awareness on social equality and the teachings of Dr. Ambedkar.

Student competitions added a creative touch to the celebration. A drawing competition by the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences saw students illustrate themes around constitutional values and unity. On April 15th, the NSS unit of Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing conducted an English elocution competition, judged by Dr. Victor Devasirvadam, Principal of AMCON. Students spoke eloquently on the topic “Jai Bhim Padyathra and the Indian Constitution.”

With the participation of over 330 students and staff, the celebrations reaffirmed MAHER’s commitment to the ideals of equality, justice, and democracy. Jai Bhim Padyathra served as a powerful reminder of Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring vision for an inclusive India.
