In celebration of the 11th International Yoga Day, the Faculty of Yoga Science and Therapy (FYST) at Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University), Chennai, successfully organized a National Level Workshop on “Scientific Basis of Yoga: Bridging Tradition with Modern Research” on 28th May 2025. Conducted in a hybrid format at the FYST Seminar Hall, the event drew participation from students, researchers, faculty members, and wellness professionals from across India.
The workshop began with traditional inaugural rituals, followed by a welcome address by Dr. V. Subbulakshmi, Principal of FYST. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. P. Rajinikumar, Head of the Department of Biomechanics at Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (TNPESU). His presentation delved into the intersection of ancient yogic wisdom and modern scientific inquiry, emphasizing the growing body of research validating yoga’s positive effects on physical and mental health. He also highlighted innovative methodologies now shaping the field of yogic science.
The workshop concluded with a lively and insightful Q&A session, fostering meaningful dialogue between the speaker and participants. Attendees had the opportunity to explore advanced topics in yogic science, exchange perspectives, and clarify questions related to ongoing research. The event recorded 78 formal registrations, with total participation exceeding 100 individuals from diverse academic and professional backgrounds—including students, scholars, educators, healthcare practitioners, and wellness enthusiasts.
The inclusive hybrid format enabled wider access, reflecting the increasing national interest in integrating traditional practices with scientific research. The workshop not only enhanced participants’ understanding of yoga’s contemporary relevance but also paved the way for future academic and professional collaborations in the field.
