As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and civic responsibility, the NSS Units of MAHER organized a Beach Cleaning Drive on 17th July 2025 at Besant Nagar Beach, Chennai. The event, held in collaboration with the Clean to Green Organization and the Corporation of India, took place between 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of keeping public spaces clean and preserving natural environments.
A total of 47 NSS student volunteers participated in the initiative, representing the Faculty of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Humanities and Science, and Faculty of Yoga Sciences and Therapy. Students actively collected plastic waste and other litter from the beach, demonstrating a strong sense of environmental responsibility, teamwork, and social commitment.
The activity was carried out under the supervision of Ms. Arthi, NSS Programme Officer from the Faculty of Occupational Therapy, and Ms. Monisha J, Assistant NSS Coordinator of MAHER. The university management extended full support by arranging transport for the volunteers, while the Clean to Green organization provided refreshments, ensuring that participants were appreciated and energized throughout the morning.
This impactful initiative not only contributed to a cleaner coastline but also helped instill a deeper understanding of sustainability and environmental care among the student volunteers.
