Meenakshi College of Arts and Science, MAHER, organized the “Ageing with Dignity” program on 20th September 2025 as part of the UGC’s nationwide initiative. The event aimed to nurture respect, empathy, and social responsibility among students toward the elderly while reinforcing the importance of intergenerational harmony.

The program saw enthusiastic participation from Shift II students of all departments. It commenced with students and faculty members taking the official UGC e-pledge through QR code scanning, affirming their commitment to uphold dignity and respect for senior citizens.

Dr. N. Prabhavathi Devi, Principal of Shift II, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of compassion, inclusivity, and shared responsibility in caring for the elderly. This was followed by a special lecture by Dr. Mythili, Professor, Department of Psychology, who offered practical insights into supporting senior citizens. She highlighted simple yet meaningful contributions such as offering companionship, improving facilities, contributing essential items, providing counseling, and extending spiritual support. Dr. Mythili also underscored behavioral values like speaking respectfully, listening with patience, and valuing the experiences of the elderly, which deeply inspired the student community.

The program was successfully coordinated by Dr. R. Shanthi, Head of Mathematics, and Mrs. S. Malarvizhi, Assistant Professor of Commerce. By instilling values of compassion and responsibility, the session not only spread awareness but also encouraged students to translate empathy into meaningful action.
