In observance of World Alzheimer’s Day 2025, Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy, MAHER, organized a special awareness program on 22nd September 2025 under the theme “Reducing Stigma and Promoting Compassionate Care within Communities.” The event aimed to spread awareness about Alzheimer’s disease while highlighting the importance of empathy and support for patients and caregivers.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Archana, PG I Year, setting an engaging tone for the day. The Principal of MCOT then delivered an insightful talk on the theme, emphasizing the collective responsibility of society in reducing stigma and fostering compassionate care.
A powerful skit performed by MOT students brought to life the challenges faced by individuals living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, leaving a strong impact on the audience. This was followed by an informative speech by Mr. Sarathi Dasan, PG I Year, who elaborated on the nature, impact, and management of Alzheimer’s disease, stressing the importance of awareness and early intervention.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms. Yogitha, MOT II Year, who acknowledged the dedicated efforts of faculty and students in making the program impactful.
The session ended on a positive and reflective note, reinforcing the urgent need for compassion, understanding, and community-driven support to reduce the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s disease.
