The Department of Pharmacology, Meenakshi College of Pharmacy, organized an insightful seminar on the theme “Your Safety – Click Away Report to PvPI” as part of the 5th Pharmacovigilance Week on 23rd September 2025. The event was held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Seminar Hall, 1st Floor, Meenakshi Faculty of Pharmacy, Chennai, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, students, and distinguished guests.
The session began with a solemn invocation followed by the lighting of the Kuthuvilakku, symbolizing knowledge and enlightenment. Prof. Dr. D. Chamundeeswari, Principal of Meenakshi College of Pharmacy, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the vital role of Pharmacovigilance in healthcare systems.
The distinguished Chief Guest, Dr. G. Kannan, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, PERI College of Pharmacy, Chennai, was introduced by Mr. S. Pugazhendhi, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, who detailed his significant academic contributions and dedication to pharmacological research.
In his theme address, Dr. Kannan emphasized the current advancements in Pharmacovigilance, the critical role of pharmacists in ensuring drug safety, and the diverse career opportunities in the field. He further elaborated on the step-by-step process of reporting Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) to the regulatory authority, the CDSCO, which in turn contributes to the WHO global safety database.
An interactive session followed, where students and faculty posed thoughtful questions and shared insights, enriching the discussions on pharmacovigilance practices.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. K. Sundari, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacology, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, organizing committee, faculty, and students for their active involvement. The event ended with the National Anthem, instilling a sense of pride and unity among all attendees.
The seminar successfully deepened awareness about the significance of Pharmacovigilance and empowered students to contribute responsibly to global drug safety.
