Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy (MCOT) celebrated World Occupational Therapy Day and Month 2025 with a series of impactful community and campus initiatives that embodied the global theme “Occupational Therapy in Action.”
As part of the celebrations, two community outreach camps were conducted on 25th October 2025 to extend early screening, assessment, and therapeutic services to children and adults with developmental and functional challenges.
The first camp was held at Kannagi Nagar, Chennai, coordinated by Ms. Leala Joyce Rani, Assistant Professor, MCOT, with 28 participating students from MOT and BOT programs. The team screened 28 children for developmental delays and autism, provided individual assessment reports, and educated caregivers on early intervention. The event was supported by Varshini Illam Trust, represented by Ms. Deepa Murali, Project Manager, who shared details of their mobile therapy initiative, “Vidhai.”
The second camp took place at AIR Nagar, Ennore, coordinated by Mr. Bennett Branson Benjamin, Assistant Professor, MCOT, with a team of 17 students (postgraduates and final-year undergraduates). Twelve children were screened for developmental and functional challenges, and parents received home-based therapy programs and guidance on sensory integration and play-based therapy. Both camps reflected MCOT’s strong commitment to community service, early intervention, and caregiver empowerment.
