The Department of Community Medicine, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), and the Indian Standards Organisation (ISO), successfully organized a Beach Cleaning and Turtle Conservation Drive at Marina Beach (Lighthouse area) on 1st February 2026, in association with the Environment Foundation of India.
The initiative focused on protecting turtle nesting sites, highlighting the crucial link between environmental cleanliness and marine biodiversity conservation. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. T. T. Gopinath, NSS Coordinator, with the presence of Dr. S. Saravana Kumar, ISO Coordinator, and Dr. M. Sakthivel, Assistant Professor.
Postgraduate students and CRMI from the Department of Community Medicine, along with first- and second-year MBBS students, actively participated in the drive, demonstrating strong community engagement and environmental responsibility. Through hands-on action and awareness, participants contributed to preserving the fragile coastal ecosystem while reinforcing the role of healthcare professionals in public and environmental health.
The drive served as a meaningful step towards nurturing social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and a collective commitment to sustainable living.
