The IPR Cell of MAHER–Meenakshi College of Arts and Science organized an enlightening guest lecture titled “IPR Awareness for Tomorrow’s Innovators” on 4th February 2026 at the MAHER Auditorium from 10.30 AM to 12.00 PM. The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among students about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and underscoring their importance in safeguarding innovation, creativity, and original research in an increasingly knowledge-driven economy.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 216 students representing various academic departments, reflecting strong interest in understanding the legal and strategic aspects of innovation. The session was led by Dr. B. Hema, a distinguished expert in the field of Intellectual Property Rights, who delivered a highly informative and engaging lecture. She provided a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of IPR and elaborated on the various forms of intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications, highlighting their scope, relevance, and legal significance.

Dr. Hema placed special emphasis on the patent system, clearly explaining the stages involved in the patent filing and registration process, common challenges faced by innovators, and the long-term benefits of protecting intellectual assets. She stressed the importance of IPR for students, researchers, and aspiring entrepreneurs as a tool to prevent infringement, enhance commercialization opportunities, and promote responsible and ethical innovation.

The interactive nature of the session enabled students to clarify their doubts and gain practical insights into applying IPR concepts in academic projects, startups, and research endeavors. The programme effectively sensitized participants to the need for protecting innovative ideas and encouraged them to think strategically about intellectual property from the early stages of creation.

The guest lecture concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to Dr. B. Hema for her valuable contribution and to all the participants for their active involvement.
