Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing (AMCON), a constituent unit of Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research, celebrated International Women’s Day on 07th March 2026 at its campus in Enathur, Kanchipuram. The programme was organized under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls – Give to Gain,” focusing on empowering women, promoting awareness of their rights, and inspiring meaningful societal change.
The event commenced with a welcome address, followed by the traditional lighting of the Kuthuvilakku by the dignitaries, symbolizing knowledge and positivity. The Chief Guest address was delivered by Dr. B. Durga, Professor cum Vice Principal, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, MAHER. In her address, she elaborated on the significance of the theme, emphasizing that true progress lies in ensuring rights, delivering justice, and taking concrete action for all women and girls. She motivated the nursing students to become change-makers in society by advocating for health equity, dignity, and equal opportunities.
The celebration featured a vibrant cultural segment that showcased the talents of students. A soulful song highlighted the strength and resilience of women, while a thought-provoking skit depicted the challenges and achievements in the journey toward women’s empowerment. An energetic dance performance further added enthusiasm and festivity to the occasion.
In a meaningful gesture aligned with the theme “Give to Gain,” the institution honored its women faculty members by presenting them with saplings, symbolizing growth, gratitude, and the nurturing role they play in shaping future healthcare professionals.
A total of 110 students and 17 faculty members participated in the event. The programme successfully created awareness and inspired action, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to fostering not only skilled nursing professionals but also compassionate and socially responsible individuals dedicated to building an inclusive and equitable society. The celebration concluded with the National Anthem.
