Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy (MCOT), MAHER, organized an expert talk on “Handling Stress & Being Focused on Career” on 4th July 2026 at the MAHER Auditorium. The programme aimed to equip students with practical strategies for managing academic stress while fostering a positive and focused approach towards their future careers.
The programme commenced with Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by the lighting of the kuthuvilakku. Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal, MCOT, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being and resilience in achieving personal and professional success. The resource person was introduced by Ms. Srilekha, Assistant Professor, MCOT.
The expert session was delivered by Mrs. J. Merlin Rathna Priya, Psychologist, Remedial Educator, and Founder of Changing Tree Child Development Centre, Chennai. She provided valuable psychological insights into the common stressors experienced by students and explained the underlying causes of academic and career-related anxiety. The session helped participants understand the difference between eustress, which promotes motivation and growth, and distress, which can lead to burnout and reduced well-being.
As part of the interactive programme, the resource person conducted a mindfulness activity, introducing students to simple relaxation and awareness techniques that could be integrated into their daily routines for effective stress management. The practical session enabled participants to experience evidence-based strategies for improving emotional balance, concentration, and overall mental wellness.
The session concluded with an engaging interaction, during which students shared their experiences, clarified their doubts, and received practical guidance on maintaining mental resilience while pursuing their academic and career goals. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Miraculine Devadarshini, Assistant Professor, MCOT, followed by the National Anthem.
The expert talk provided valuable life skills that will help students manage stress effectively, strengthen their emotional well-being, and remain focused on achieving their academic and professional aspirations.
