Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing (AMCON), observed International Plastic Bag Free Day on 3rd July 2025 with a vibrant community outreach program held at the Pallavarmedu Community Urban Center.
Organized by the NSS unit of AMCON, the event aimed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of plastic bag usage and to promote sustainable alternatives. The program began with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Asha Rani, M.Sc. (N), Assistant Professor, AMCON.
A dedicated awareness session was led by a four-member team from the Department of Community Medicine, who highlighted the harmful effects of plastic on health and the environment, and encouraged eco-friendly habits.
In a powerful show of student engagement, B.Sc. (N) IV year students took part in a rally through the community, delivering informative talks and encouraging residents to “Beat the Plastic.” A lively skit on the importance of plastic-free living and the adoption of reusable bags was performed by Mr. Jenuson and his team, capturing the attention and appreciation of the local audience.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Sunitha Devi, M.Sc. (N), Tutor, AMCON, followed by the National Anthem. The event reached over 150 community members, leaving a lasting impression on the importance of reducing plastic use and protecting the environment.
