AMCON Observes International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2025 with a Powerful Call to End Digital Abuse

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing (AMCON), Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER), observed the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2025 on 25 November 2025 at the Multipurpose Hall, AMCON. Held under the global theme “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” the event underscored the growing need to address online threats and foster safer digital environments for women and girls.

The programme opened with the dignified rendition of Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. C. Andriya Paulin of B.Sc (N) III Semester. Prof. Dr. Victor Devasirvadam S., Principal, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility and institutional efforts in combating violence against women. Prof. Dr. Vasantha Priya J., ICC Presiding Officer, presented an eloquent introduction of the Chief Guest.

The event was graced by the presence of Mrs. J. Vijaya Lakshimi, Inspector, All Women Police Station, Kanchipuram, who delivered a compelling and insightful address. She emphasized the urgent need for a holistic, multi-dimensional strategy to eliminate violence against women, including stronger legal frameworks, responsive institutional mechanisms, dedicated helplines and impactful government schemes. Her remarks were both enlightening and deeply motivating for the audience.

Further enriching the observance, a thematic PowerPoint presentation was delivered by Ms. Devasri M. of B.Sc (N) VII Semester, offering a deeper understanding of the challenges surrounding digital violence. The programme also featured Tamil and English Elocution Competitions, where students demonstrated strong oratory skills and thoughtful perspectives. In the English category, Ms. S. Gopika of V Semester secured the first prize while Ms. Andriya Shijan of III Semester received the second prize. In the Tamil category, the first prize was awarded to Ms. V. Pavithra of V Semester, followed by Ms. V. Srimathi of V Semester in second place.

The cultural segment added vibrancy to the event, featuring an expressive dance performance by Ms. T. Lathushiya and her team from III Semester, and a powerful mime presentation by Ms. Kokila J and her team from V Semester. Both performances captivated the audience and reinforced the day’s central theme. All prize winners were felicitated with certificates and awards by the Chief Guest and AMCON faculty members.

In her closing remarks, the Chief Guest conveyed her deep appreciation for the institution’s commitment to promoting awareness, prevention and empowerment. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Amina of B.Sc (N) III Semester, followed by the National Anthem, marking a dignified end to the observance. A total of 100 students participated and benefitted from this meaningful and educational programme.
