Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing, through its NSS unit, commemorated National Youth Day on 12 January 2026 with great enthusiasm and a spirit of inspiration, celebrating the ideals of Swami Vivekananda under the theme “Ignite the Self, Impact the World.” The programme commenced at 10.00 a.m. with the Thamizh Thai Vazhthu, invoking a sense of cultural pride and patriotism. Ms. P. Deva Grace, III Semester B.Sc. Nursing student, warmly welcomed the gathering, setting a positive tone for the event.
The theme of the programme was formally unfolded by Prof. Dr. V. Prakash, Vice Principal, AMCON, who emphasized the relevance of self-awareness, discipline, and social responsibility among today’s youth. The chief guest, Mrs. V. Meenakshi, Teacher (Tamil), Rani Anna Durai Government Higher Secondary School, Kanchipuram, delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking address on the significance of National Youth Day, motivating students to imbibe the values of courage, determination, and service advocated by Swami Vivekananda. Adding further depth to the observance, Ms. S. Subiksha delivered a special speech highlighting the life, philosophy, and enduring influence of Swami Vivekananda on youth empowerment and nation building.
As part of the celebrations, a 2 km run was organized from MMCHRI to Ponnerikarai, with active participation from students of AMCON and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, promoting physical fitness and unity. A speech competition was also conducted, providing students with an opportunity to articulate their thoughts and perspectives on youth, leadership, and national values. Prizes were distributed by the chief guest to the winners and participants in recognition of their enthusiastic involvement and commendable performances.
The programme concluded with student feedback and a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Lathushiya, III Semester B.Sc. Nursing student, followed by the National Anthem at 12.30 p.m. In total, 150 students and 15 faculty members from Nursing and Allied Health Sciences benefited from the programme, which effectively reinforced the ideals of youth empowerment, service, and national pride.
