As part of the World Environment Day 2025 observance, the students and faculty of Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing (AMCON) actively participated in an insightful online lecture titled “On a Finite Earth, Can We Afford Ever-Growing Consumption?” The event, held on 5th June 2025 at Lecture Hall – I, was organized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as part of its Chetna Lecture Series.
The session was delivered by Prof. Chetna Singh Solanki, Professor at IIT Bombay and Founder of the Energy Swaraj Foundation. In his address, Prof. Solanki emphasized the urgent need to acknowledge the planet’s finite natural resources, stating, “We live on a planet with limited resources, so endless growth in consumption isn’t sustainable.” He encouraged participants to adopt lifestyles that align with Earth’s ecological limits, promoting sustainability for present and future generations.
The session inspired thoughtful reflection among participants about their own consumption habits and the broader impact of human behavior on environmental health. A total of 100 students and 10 faculty members from the college attended the lecture and benefited from its powerful message on environmental responsibility.
