Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing Promotes a Ragging-Free Campus Through Anti-Ragging Awareness Week

The Anti-Ragging Committee of Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing organized Anti-Ragging Awareness Week from 12 to 19 August 2026 under the theme “Say No to Ragging, Say Yes to Respect.” The week-long initiative aimed to create awareness about the harmful physical, emotional, and social consequences of ragging and strengthen students’ commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus. An awareness rally and a selfie corner featuring anti-ragging messages further encouraged students to actively champion a ragging-free environment.

The inaugural ceremony held on 14 August 2026 commenced with a welcome address, followed by an inspiring special address by Dr. Kirupa, Chairperson of the Anti-Ragging Committee. Dr. J. Vasantha Priya, Nodal Officer of the Anti-Ragging Committee, subsequently explained the aims, objectives, and functioning of the committee, sensitizing students to their responsibilities in preventing and reporting ragging.

The second day featured a range of creative and engaging activities. Students of the II Semester presented an innovative mime based on the anti-ragging theme, while a photography competition titled “Campus Without Fear” provided students with a platform to communicate powerful messages on safety, dignity, and mutual respect. A highlight of the programme was an anti-ragging skit performed by III-year students, which effectively portrayed the emotional and social consequences of ragging and emphasized the importance of fostering a healthy and inclusive campus. Students also shared personal experiences highlighting the positive impact of a supportive and ragging-free college environment.

The valedictory function marked the culmination of the awareness week, with Ms. Jameena A., Sub-Inspector of Police, Kanchipuram, as the Chief Guest. She sensitized students to the legal implications of ragging and highlighted the stringent measures enforced under anti-ragging laws to safeguard students. Reaffirming their commitment to a safe campus, all participating students collectively took the Anti-Ragging Pledge, followed by the distribution of prizes to the winners of the various competitions.

The programme reached 393 students from II, IV, VI, and VIII Semesters, strengthening their understanding of anti-ragging laws, campus safety, and individual responsibility. The initiative reinforced the values of dignity, discipline, respect, unity, and mutual support, encouraging students to contribute actively towards creating a positive and fear-free learning environment.

The awareness programme strengthened students’ understanding of their rights and responsibilities while encouraging them to foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, safety, and unity.
