The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing, under the aegis of Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER), organized an Awareness Program on Women & Child Helpline Numbers through the One Stop Centre (OSC) on 2nd August 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM.
The session began with a welcome address delivered by Ms. A. Jhonsi Inbakumari, Faculty Member. The primary objective of the event was to create awareness among students about vital support mechanisms available for women and children in distress, including the One Stop Centre (OSC), Women Helpline – 181, and Child Helpline – 1098.
Dr. Vasantha Priya J., ICC Presiding Officer and Professor at AMCON, served as the internal speaker and delivered an informative and engaging talk. She emphasized the function of Women Helpline 181, which operates 24/7 to provide immediate emergency response to women affected by violence. This helpline connects women to essential services such as police, hospitals, OSCs, and also provides information about government schemes aimed at women’s welfare.
She also elaborated on the significance of Child Helpline 1098, a nationwide, 24-hour, toll-free emergency service for children in need of care and protection. The helpline has connected over three million children across India with appropriate rehabilitation and long-term care services.
The program saw active participation from around 100 students, who engaged meaningfully with the session and gained valuable insights into the available helpline services and their societal impact.
The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Vasantha Priya J., along with faculty members Ms. A. Jhonsi Inbakumari and Ms. Asha Rani, and student members Ms. Balaabirami and Ms. Abinaya Settu. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Asha Rani, Faculty Member, and the session ended at 1:00 PM.
