CME on Scientific Writing and Publication Empowers Surgical Researchers

The Department of General Surgery, Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI), conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled “Scientific Writing and Publication in Surgical Research” on 22nd July 2025 at Morton Hall, Hospital 2nd Floor.

The program commenced with a traditional inauguration featuring Tamil Thai Vaazhthu and the lighting of the Kuthuvilakku, setting a positive tone for the day. A warm welcome was extended by Prof. Dr. P.S. Saravanan, Professor and Head of the Department, followed by an inaugural address from Prof. Dr. K.V. Rajasekhar, Dean of MMCHRI.

The CME featured a series of insightful and interactive sessions aimed at enhancing the research and academic writing capabilities of medical professionals. Dr. M.D.S. Paul Dhinakaran initiated the academic proceedings with a talk on formulating impactful research questions. He was followed by Dr. K. Shankar, who discussed the critical role of statistics in surgical research. Dr. Sowmiya Baskaran conducted a practical session on reference management using Zotero and demonstrated efficient medical literature search techniques. She also elaborated on medical writing best practices, plagiarism checks, and publication ethics.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both faculty members and postgraduate students, serving as a valuable platform to foster a strong research culture and improve scientific communication within the institution.
