Dr. Sugasri Sureshkumar, Head of the Department (I/C), Meenakshi College of Physiotherapy, MAHER, has authored a comprehensive and pioneering book titled “Clinical Practice Guidelines for Physiotherapy in Neurological Conditions: Post Stroke.”
The book carries Forewords from eminent personalities including Mr. Pratap Rao Jadav, Minister of Ayush & Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Dr. Sanjiv Jha, President, Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP); and Dr. Ruchi Varshne, Head of Women’s Cell (IAPWC) and Editor-in-Chief. The Foreword emphasizes that these guidelines are based on the latest scientific evidence and clinical expertise, translating advancements in neuroscience and rehabilitation into practical, standardized protocols for physiotherapists at all levels of care.
The author’s approach ensures that these clinical resources are applicable not only to advanced urban centers but also to smaller clinics and rehabilitation units in rural areas, thereby promoting equitable access to quality stroke rehabilitation. This democratization of knowledge empowers physiotherapists to deliver evidence-based care, ensuring that stroke survivors—regardless of location—receive optimal treatment to regain dignity, function, and independence.
The book comprehensively covers topics such as the global burden of stroke, principles of neuro-physiotherapy, physiotherapy evaluation, core therapeutic interventions, long-term care, home-based stroke physiotherapy, community reintegration, domain-specific and emerging interventions, and follow-up care.
