Educational Visit to Klinik Pergigian Modena and Avisena Specialist Hospital as Part of USIM Dental Boot Camp 2025 – Day 3

On 20th May 2025, participants of the USIM Dental Boot Camp took a structured academic visit to Klinik Pergigian Modena and Avisena Specialist Hospital in Shah Alam, Malaysia. This visit was designed to enhance clinical exposure and understanding of advanced dental technologies and practices.

The delegation included Dr. R. Anitha, Deputy Registrar Administration, MAHER, along with six dental students: Aashiv Prakash, Bhavishya Prabhu, Ranjana Nataraj, Rajalakshmi Janakiraman, Sharon Jessica, and Harshad Balaji.

The day commenced with a tour of the DENTADRONE Dental Laboratory, guided by the in-house Dental Technician and Lab Incharge. Students observed modern dental manufacturing techniques and were introduced to digital workflows in restorative dentistry.

This was followed by a presentation and clinic tour led by Dr. H. J. Firdaus B. Hanapiah, who highlighted various aspects of the clinic’s operations, including the use of in-house digital 3D printing, fabrication of clear aligners, and a case study on TMJ ankylosis treatment involving the replacement of bony ankylosis with titanium joints. He also showcased the digital clinical infrastructure that supports these advanced treatments.

Dr. Firdaus expressed a strong interest in collaborating with MAHER on future research initiatives and internship programs, particularly in areas such as Clear Aligners and Fixed Braces training. He assured the students of mentorship and guidance in dental business development and clinical training.

The visit concluded with a tour of the clinic’s radiology department, during which a CBCT scan was conducted for one of the students as a live demonstration.The experience reinforced the practical understanding of radiological diagnostics and capped off a day of meaningful academic and clinical engagement.
