FOT Hosts Career Guidance Program on Higher Education and Job Prospects in the U.S.

The Faculty of Occupational Therapy (FOT), MAHER, organized a Career Guidance Program titled “Higher Education and Job Prospects in the United States” on 18th June 2025. The event aimed to equip students with insights into international opportunities in the field of Occupational Therapy. A total of 174 students and 4 faculty members participated in the session.

The program began with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by the lighting of the Kuthuvilakku and a floral tribute to the Founder Chancellor, Thiru A.N. Radhakrishnan, by the dignitaries.

Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal, Faculty of Occupational Therapy, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the event. Dr. Kowsalya, Dean – International Relations, and Dr. Lily Christopher, Dean – Student Affairs, addressed the gathering and offered a special note of encouragement. They also felicitated the guest speaker with a token of appreciation.

The highlight of the program was an informative session by Mr. Pravin Xavier, OTR/L, from Ohio, USA, who shared a comprehensive overview of the NBCOT (National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy) examination, state licensure procedures, and available clinical and non-clinical job opportunities. He also touched upon the relevance of value-added courses in enhancing professional prospects.

An interactive Q&A session followed, allowing students to engage directly with the speaker and clarify their queries. As a gesture of appreciation, Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran presented a memento to the guest speaker. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Hasti Divecha, Assistant Professor, FOT, and the National Anthem.

The program was a valuable initiative to guide students in exploring global career pathways and understanding the evolving landscape of Occupational Therapy practice abroad.
