Faculty of Yoga Science and Therapy (FYST) observed the 11th International Day of Yoga with a vibrant and inspiring celebration on the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The event highlighted the transformative power of yoga in fostering sustainable living and holistic well-being.
Dr. V. Subbulakshmi, Principal, FYST, delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the role of yoga in nurturing a healthy and mindful lifestyle. This was followed by a special address by Prof. Dr. V. Sureka, Registrar, who spoke on the importance of institutional efforts in promoting yoga awareness across various communities.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. V. M. Janakiraman, Director of Yoga Therapy at Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, who shared deep insights into the relevance and therapeutic benefits of yoga in contemporary life.
Students of FYST presented an artistic yoga demonstration, showcasing strength, flexibility, and discipline. A report was also presented detailing the month-long yoga awareness initiatives, including workshops and programs conducted for teaching, non-teaching, and housekeeping staff, IT professionals, and members of the local community. These efforts culminated in a community rally aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of integrating yoga into everyday life.
A key highlight of the event was a record attempt in Kapotasana (Pigeon Pose) by Mr. M. Githendra Sai, officially witnessed and validated by Mr. Vivek R. Nair, Adjudicator from the India Book of Records, who also delivered an appreciation address to acknowledge the dedication and excellence demonstrated.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem, leaving the participants with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration.
The celebration served as a powerful reminder of yoga’s enduring relevance in promoting physical vitality, mental clarity, and collective well-being.
