The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Meenakshi College of Allied Health Sciences organized an insightful Seminar Session in observance of Human Rights Day on 9th January 2026, from 2.00 PM to 3.00 PM. The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness on human rights, gender justice, workplace safety, and legal protections that are especially relevant to healthcare professionals and students.
The seminar aimed to sensitize participants to the significance of human rights, existing legal safeguards, and the crucial role of educational institutions in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive academic and professional environment. Faculty members and students participated actively, reflecting keen interest and engagement throughout the session.
The programme was led by Prof. Dr. B. Durga, Vice Principal, who served as the resource person. She delivered an in-depth overview of fundamental human rights and emphasized their relevance in both professional practice and social life. The session covered key legislations such as the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, highlighting the role and responsibilities of the ICC, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, focusing on child safety and mandatory reporting.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Durga introduced participants to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, explaining their importance as contemporary legal frameworks aimed at strengthening India’s justice delivery system. The session was interactive, allowing participants to clarify doubts and gain a clearer understanding of legal rights, responsibilities, and available redressal mechanisms.
The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment among participants to uphold human rights, ethical conduct, equality, and dignity within academic institutions and healthcare settings, reinforcing the shared responsibility of building a just and respectful society.academic and healthcare environment.
