The Department of English, Meenakshi College of Arts and Science, in collaboration with the Centre for Online Education and the Students’ Council, hosted a vibrant two-day literary festival, Madras Memoirs: Tales from the City, on 22–23 August 2025.
Day 1 set the stage with storytelling and elocution competitions in both English and Tamil, engaging school and college students in celebrating Chennai’s creativity and cultural heritage. Day 2 featured thought-provoking talks, paper presentations, and a lively panel discussion exploring the representation of Madras in literature, cinema, and history. The sessions witnessed enthusiastic participation from scholars and students alike, creating an atmosphere of dialogue and discovery.
The festival was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Shantichitra Kalidas, Guest of Honour Mrs. K. Padmaja, and special invitees Prof. Dr. N. Arunagirinathan, Dr. Shanthi V, and Dr. N. Prabhavathy Devi, who distributed prizes to winners. Convenor Dr. Pushpa Nagini Sripada delivered an inspiring Madras Day message, while coordinator Dr. Seema Sathish extended a heartfelt vote of thanks, bringing the event to a meaningful close.
