MAHER conducts Hands-on Workshop on Electrophoresis Techniques

The Department of Research, Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER), Chennai, successfully organized a one-day hands-on workshop on “Horizontal and Vertical Electrophoresis Techniques” on 13th March 2026 at the Central Research Laboratory.

The workshop was designed to equip participants with both theoretical understanding and practical expertise in key electrophoretic techniques widely used in biomedical research and diagnostics. The sessions were led by distinguished resource persons, Dr. D. Nalini, Associate Professor, Department of Research, and Dr. A. Pavithra, Associate Dean – Consultancy, MAHER, who guided participants through both fundamental principles and advanced applications.

A total of 23 students from M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai, actively participated in the programme. The training covered essential areas such as agarose gel electrophoresis and SDS-PAGE, including gel preparation, sample loading, operation of electrophoresis units, visualization of DNA and protein bands, and interpretation of results.

The hands-on sessions enabled participants to independently perform experiments under expert supervision, with additional emphasis on troubleshooting techniques and adherence to laboratory safety protocols. The interactive format encouraged active engagement, discussion, and conceptual clarity throughout the programme.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, with participants expressing positive feedback on the learning experience and its relevance to their academic and research pursuits. This hands-on training significantly enhanced their technical proficiency, analytical skills, and understanding of molecular biology techniques, strengthening their readiness for research and diagnostic applications.
