MAHER Organizes Multispecialty Health Camp in Commemoration of Founder Chancellor’s 86th Birth Anniversary

In a heartfelt tribute to the 86th birth anniversary of the esteemed Founder Chancellor, Thiru. A.N. Radhakrishnan, Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER) organized a comprehensive multispecialty health camp and awareness program on 21st May 2025. The event was held at the Rural Health Centre of Meenakshi Medical College and Research Institute in Uthiramerur, reflecting the founder’s enduring commitment to community health and social welfare.

Guided by the leadership of Chancellor Mrs. Jayanthi Radhakrishnan, Chief Patron Mrs. Gomathi Radhakrishnan, Pro-Chancellor Mr. Akash Prabhakaran, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. C. Sridhar, and Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. C. Krithika, the event was graced by several dignitaries, including Registrar Prof. Dr. Surekha Varalakshmi, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Boopathi, and Mr. Ellappan, President of the Perungozhi Panchayat.

The camp offered free medical screenings and consultations across a wide range of specialties including Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopedics, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Dentistry. Patients received necessary medications free of charge, ensuring accessible and quality care for the rural population.

Adding depth to the health initiative, awareness sessions were conducted on crucial topics. Mrs. Thephila Cathrine from Meenakshi College of Nursing delivered an informative session on cervical cancer awareness, while Mrs. Malarvizhi from the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences addressed key aspects of women’s wellness. To address the growing concern of substance abuse, Mr. S. Pugazhendi and Mr. A. Anish Kumar led impactful sessions on drug abuse awareness.

Over 200 residents from the villages of Perungozhi, Thalavaramboondi, and Kattiyambandal availed the services and took part in the awareness programs. Registrar Dr. Surekha Varalakshmi reiterated MAHER’s commitment to providing free and accessible healthcare, reinforcing the institution’s mission of serving society with compassion and excellence.

In a gesture of social responsibility, a cheque of Rs. 10,000 was donated to the charitable organization Child Haven International. Additionally, notebooks were distributed to 205 students, supporting their educational needs. The event also embraced environmental sustainability with the planting of tree saplings at the camp site.

Further enriching the day, students from the Faculty of Yoga Science and Therapy led engaging yoga and wellness sessions for children from Child Haven International, promoting holistic health and well-being.

With the dedicated support of 70 volunteers and staff from various medical and allied health departments, the camp stood as a testament to MAHER’s unwavering dedication to rural outreach and community service. The initiative successfully combined healthcare, education, and environmental awareness, honoring the legacy of the Founder Chancellor in both spirit and action.
