The Department of Commerce, Meenakshi College of Arts and Science (MCAS), MAHER, organised a One-Day Workshop on “Career Opportunities for Women in the Industry and Industry Expectations from Graduates” on 23 September 2026 at the MAHER Auditorium. The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by creating awareness of diverse career opportunities, strengthening employability skills, and enabling students to make informed career choices.
The programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr. P. Sagayaraj, Dean, MCAS, followed by the felicitation of the resource persons by Dr. V. Shanthi, Principal – Shift I, and Dr. N. Prabhavathy Devi, Principal – Shift II. Dr. P. Jeyanthi, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Convenor, presented the workshop dynamics and outlined its objectives.
The first session was delivered by Dr. S. Ramakrishnan, Deputy General Manager – HR, Parle Agro Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, who shared valuable insights into industry expectations, workplace competencies, professional behaviour, adaptability, and employability skills. He emphasised the importance of complementing academic qualifications with professional competencies and a positive approach to continuous learning.
The second session by Mr. G. Rajagopalan, Chairman & Managing Director, Rajus Aviation Academy, introduced students to diverse opportunities in aviation and allied sectors. He discussed eligibility requirements, career prospects, and professional expectations, encouraging students to explore career pathways aligned with their interests and capabilities.
The third session was conducted by Mr. Suren Thulasiram, Founder, Namma Vetri Iyakkam and Peak Performance Mentor, who used an engaging and activity-oriented approach to highlight diverse academic and career pathways in Commerce. Interactive activities featuring commerce-related courses encouraged participation while promoting confidence, personal effectiveness, career development, and professional growth.
The workshop witnessed the active participation of around 220 students, research scholars, and faculty members. The interactive sessions and discussions provided participants with practical insights into industry expectations, employability, and emerging career opportunities.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. P. Ambika, Mrs. K. Kanchana, and Dr. R. Anuradha, Heads of the Department of Commerce, along with Dr. P. Jeyanthi, Coordinator, Industry Collaboration Cell, MCAS. The workshop served as a valuable platform for connecting academic learning with industry expectations and fostering career readiness among students.
