MCHAS Conducts Sensitisation Programme on Elimination of Violence Against Women

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Meenakshi College of Allied Health Sciences (MAHER) organized a Sensitisation Programme on 2nd January 2026 in observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The programme focused on healthcare sensitisation, community awareness, emergency and safety preparedness, and the professional responsibilities of frontline healthcare workers.

The session was delivered by Prof. Dr. B. Durga, Vice Principal, who led an insightful and impactful discussion highlighting the crucial role of healthcare professionals in identifying, preventing, and responding to violence against women. She emphasized the importance of early intervention, ethical practice, trauma-informed care, and the responsibility of healthcare providers to ensure safety, dignity, and confidentiality while delivering care.

The programme also underscored the significance of community sensitisation, encouraging students and interns to serve as change agents by promoting awareness, challenging stigma, and supporting survivors with empathy and respect. Special emphasis was placed on emergency and safety preparedness, equipping participants with essential knowledge to respond effectively during crisis situations.

In addition, the session reinforced core professional values such as compassion, empathy, responsibility, continuous learning, collaboration, and respect, which are fundamental to ethical and patient-centered healthcare practice.
