The Department of Commerce, Meenakshi College of Arts and Science, organized a guest lecture on “Basics of Securities Market” on 23rd January 2026 at the Computer Lab, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m., with the objective of strengthening students’ understanding of capital markets and investment practices.
The session was led by Mr. E. Ilango, Assistant General Manager (Retired), SEBI – SRO, Chennai, who shared his extensive expertise on the functioning of the securities market. He provided a clear overview of capital markets, explaining various types of securities such as shares, debentures, and mutual funds, and elaborated on the roles of the primary and secondary markets. The speaker also highlighted the significance of stock exchanges and emphasized the crucial role of SEBI in regulating the market and safeguarding investor interests.
The lecture was highly interactive, with students actively engaging through questions and discussions on investment safety, market mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks. The session offered valuable practical insights that complemented academic learning and enhanced students’ awareness of career opportunities in the financial sector.
