Meenakshi College of Arts and Science, MAHER, Organizes Guest Lecture and Awareness Activities on Obesity Prevention

As part of the UGC initiative and in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the installation of Oil and Sugar Awareness Boards, Meenakshi College of Arts and Science, Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER) organized a Guest Lecture on “Awareness and Support for Obesity Prevention” on 9th October 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in the college auditorium.

The programme commenced with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by a warm welcome address by Dr. P. Sagayaraj, Dean. Dr. N. Prabhavathy Devi, Principal (Shift II), in her address, emphasized the importance of maintaining good health through a balanced diet and regular physical activity, urging students to adopt sustainable healthy habits.

The Resource Person, Dr. N. C. Jesus Rajkumar, Associate Professor, SRMIST, Kattankulathur, delivered an engaging and motivational lecture on the significance of physical fitness, balanced nutrition, and mental well-being. He highlighted the need for regular exercise and sports participation, inspiring students to aspire toward excellence at national and international levels, including the Olympic Games. He also discussed the increasing prevalence of obesity and lifestyle-related disorders, stressing the importance of preventive health measures through mindful eating and active living.

In line with the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a Poster Making Competition was conducted on the themes “Sugar is More for Taste, Serves No Nutrition – Less Sugar, More Life” and “Less Oil, More Life.” Students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their creativity and understanding of the importance of healthy eating. The winners were recognized and awarded certificates of appreciation.

As part of the campaign, Oil and Sugar Awareness Boards were prominently displayed across the MAHER campus to promote health consciousness and encourage a culture of wellness among students and staff members.

The programme concluded successfully, promoting awareness about obesity prevention and reinforcing the collective responsibility toward building a healthier community. The event was coordinated by Dr. R. Shanthi (MCAS) and Mrs. S. Malarvizhi (MAHER Campus), UGC Coordinators.
