The NSS unit of Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy (MCOT), MAHER, organized a beach cleaning campaign on 12th March 2026 at Ashtalakshmi Temple Beach. The initiative witnessed the active participation of 48 students along with the NSS Coordinator, Ms. Melba Jeesurani A., reflecting strong student engagement in environmental conservation activities.
The programme commenced with a brief orientation highlighting the importance of environmental cleanliness and individual responsibility in preserving natural resources. The objectives of maintaining clean coastal ecosystems and reducing plastic pollution were clearly explained, sensitizing participants to the environmental and ecological impact of waste accumulation on beaches.
Following the briefing, students actively engaged in cleaning the shoreline by collecting plastic waste, bottles, covers, and other non-biodegradable materials. Their collective efforts not only improved the cleanliness of the beach but also helped raise awareness among the public about the importance of protecting marine life and maintaining hygienic surroundings.
The campaign was successfully completed with enthusiastic participation, reinforcing the values of social responsibility, teamwork, and environmental stewardship among students. The initiative served as a meaningful step toward promoting sustainable practices and community awareness for a cleaner and healthier environment.
