Meenakshi College of Pharmacy Conducts Awareness Seminar on Current Good Manufacturing Practices

Meenakshi College of Pharmacy (MCOP) conducted a one-hour awareness seminar on Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) on 9 October 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Seminar Hall, in connection with the 4th National cGMP Day observed on 10 October 2026. The programme was organised in accordance with the Pharmacy Council of India’s communication dated 30 September 2026, encouraging pharmacy institutions to conduct cGMP awareness activities.

The session was led by Dr. L. Karpagavalli, Head and Professor, Department of Pharmaceutics, who highlighted the importance of cGMP in ensuring the quality, safety and consistency of pharmaceutical products. The presentation covered personnel and premises, equipment qualification and calibration, material handling, production controls, contamination prevention, documentation, data integrity through ALCOA+, and the complementary roles of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC). Historical examples, including the sulfanilamide elixir disaster and the thalidomide crisis, illustrated the consequences of inadequate safety and quality controls.

The seminar also addressed qualification and validation, deviations, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), change control, packaging and labelling checks, product complaints and recalls. Practical examples from the Pharmaceutics laboratory helped students connect theoretical concepts with industrial practices. An interactive classroom challenge and quiz reinforced the five Ps of GMP—People, Place, Plant, Process and Paper/Data.

The programme concluded with a cGMP pledge encouraging students to follow approved procedures, maintain cleanliness, document activities accurately, report deviations and prioritise patient safety. The seminar reinforced the importance of integrating quality into every stage of pharmaceutical manufacturing and upholding GMP principles in academic and professional practice.
