The Research and Development Committee of Meenakshi College of Pharmacy (MCOP) organized a two-day workshop on “Basic In-Silico Tools in Pharmaceutical Chemistry” on 3rd and 4th September 2025 at Room No. 029, First Floor, MCOP, Chennai. The event aimed to bridge academic learning with industry practices in computational drug discovery.
The program began with a solemn invocation and the ceremonial lighting of the Kuthuvilakku. Dr. D. Chamundeswari, Principal, MCOP, delivered the welcome address, followed by the introduction of distinguished guests by Dr. L. Karpagavalli, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmaceutics.
The workshop was graced by Dr. Bhuvaneswari Sridhar, Adjunct Faculty, Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras, and Dr. Balaji Panneerselvam, Lead, External Alliance – Pfizer Healthcare India Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Bhuvaneswari highlighted the academic importance of computational chemistry, while Dr. Balaji offered an industry perspective, stressing its applications in modern drug discovery and research collaborations.
Technical sessions, coordinated by Dr. K.K. Rajasekar, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, introduced participants to molecular docking, pharmacophore modeling, and virtual screening, with practical demonstrations on computational platforms. An interactive discussion further enriched participants’ understanding of the subject.
The workshop witnessed 61 participants, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as faculty from other institutions such as GRT College of Pharmacy, Saveetha College of Pharmacy, and Sri Venkateswara College of Pharmacy.
Overall, the workshop provided valuable exposure to computational approaches in pharmaceutical chemistry, motivating young researchers to integrate in-silico tools into their future academic and professional endeavors.
