Meenakshi College of Pharmacy observed World No Tobacco Day on 1st June 2026 at the Seminar Hall with the objective of creating awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and promoting a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle among students and faculty members.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. D. Chamundeeswari, Principal, Meenakshi College of Pharmacy. In her address, she emphasized the importance of health awareness and highlighted the need to discourage tobacco use in society through education and collective responsibility.
An awareness session was delivered by Dr. S. Dhanalakshmi, Professor, Department of Pharmacognosy. She elaborated on the various health hazards associated with tobacco consumption, including cancer, respiratory disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and several other life-threatening conditions. She also stressed the importance of preventive healthcare measures and adopting healthy lifestyle practices to combat tobacco-related illnesses.
Mr. S. Sreenath, Campus Incharge, addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of World No Tobacco Day in raising public awareness about the dangers of tobacco use. He encouraged students to make informed health choices, avoid tobacco products, and actively contribute towards building a tobacco-free society.
As part of the observance, all participants took the No Tobacco Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to abstain from tobacco use and to spread awareness about its harmful effects among their peers, families, and communities.
The programme concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students. The event effectively reinforced the message of World No Tobacco Day and strengthened awareness about the importance of preventing tobacco use for a healthier future. The initiative also encouraged participants to become advocates for a tobacco-free lifestyle and responsible public health practices.
