Meenakshi College of Physiotherapy Conducts Practical Workshop on Pathological Pain and Visceral Screening

Meenakshi College of Physiotherapy, MAHER, organised a one-day practical workshop titled “Beyond Muscles & Joints: Pathological Pain Manifestation & Visceral Screening in Physiotherapy Practice” on 21 October 2026 at the Seminar Hall. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Vasanthan.G to enhance students’ clinical reasoning skills in identifying pain presentations that may indicate underlying visceral or pathological conditions.

A total of 97 undergraduate and postgraduate students participated in the workshop. The session covered organ-specific referred pain patterns, red-flag screening and differential diagnosis in physiotherapy practice. Students also gained practical insights into vital signs assessment and the application of screening techniques to support appropriate clinical decision-making, including treatment planning, referral and co-management.

The workshop emphasised the importance of recognising potential non-musculoskeletal causes of pain and identifying signs that require further medical evaluation. It strengthened students’ understanding of comprehensive patient assessment, promoting safer clinical practice and informed decision-making in physiotherapy.
