Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute Commemorates World TB Day 2026 with Insightful CME Programme

The Department of Respiratory Medicine at Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI), Kanchipuram, commemorated World TB Day on 27th March 2026 by organizing a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme at Morton Hall, Hospital Building (2nd Floor). The event aligned with the global theme, “Yes! We Can End TB – Led by Countries, Powered by People.”

The programme witnessed active participation from teaching faculty, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and nursing staff. The event was hosted by Dr. Vidhisha, Junior Resident, Department of Respiratory Medicine.

Dr. Suresh Kumar, TB Coordinator, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the current scenario of tuberculosis, associated mortality rates, and the growing concern of post-TB lung diseases. The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. Dr. K. V. Rajasekhar, Dean, MMCHRI, who emphasized the importance of active participation in the national End TB programme and appreciated the department’s efforts in organizing the CME.

The keynote address was delivered by Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Muthulakshmi, who shared her clinical experiences in TB management and elaborated on preventive strategies. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Bala Murugan, Assistant Professor, Department of Respiratory Medicine.

The academic sessions featured expert lectures from distinguished speakers. Prof. Dr. Nalini Jayanthi, Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, SRM Medical College, delivered a session on current NTEP guidelines. Prof. Dr. Senthamarai from the Department of Microbiology, MMCHRI, spoke on the role of NAAT in TB diagnosis. Dr. Parameshwar Keerthi, Assistant Professor, Department of Radiodiagnosis, discussed the role of chest radiology in TB diagnosis, followed by a session on Tuberculosis Preventive Therapy (TPT) by Dr. Pughazendhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Respiratory Medicine, SRM Medical College.

The sessions provided comprehensive insights into updated diagnostic approaches, treatment protocols, and preventive strategies, making the programme academically enriching and clinically relevant for all participants.

This field engagement enhanced participants’ understanding of tuberculosis management, strengthened their clinical knowledge, and improved their awareness of national guidelines and public health strategies in TB control.
