The Department of General Surgery, Meenakshi Medical College Hospital & Research Institute (MMCHRI) organized a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Wound Care – Mastering Wound Management” on 24th August 2026 at the Vesalius Lecture Hall, 250 Block. The CME was conducted under the theme “Advances in Wound Care: Bridging Evidence and Practice”, bringing together experts to share contemporary approaches to wound management.
The programme commenced with welcome remarks by Dr. P. S. Saravanan, Professor & Head, Department of General Surgery, followed by the Inaugural Address by Prof. Dr. K. Boopathi, Dean, MMCHRI.
The scientific sessions featured a range of contemporary topics in wound care. Dr. J. S. Rajkumar, Chairman & Surgical Director, Life Line Group of Hospitals, discussed the application of artificial intelligence in wound management. Dr. Umar Farooq Baba, Professor, Department of Plastic Surgery & Burns, SKIMS, shared insights into hand burns and reconstruction. Dr. V. B. Narayana Murthy, Consultant Plastic Surgeon & HBOT Therapy, Kauvery Hospital, elaborated on wound bed preparation and modern skin substitutes.
The afternoon sessions focused on key clinical aspects of wound management. Prof. Dr. K. Boopathi, Dean, MMCHRI, addressed diabetic foot ulcer salvage, while Dr. M. Ganesan, Professor, Department of General Surgery, MMCHRI, discussed surgical site infection prevention. Dr. K. Suresh Babu, Professor, Department of General Surgery, MMCHRI, provided insights into systematic dressing selection.
The CME provided an enriching academic platform for exploring evidence-based approaches and emerging advances in wound care, with a focus on translating contemporary knowledge into effective clinical practice.
