MMCHRI Celebrates International Women’s Day 2026 with “Empower through Expression – Ignite, Debate, Celebrate”

The Internal Complaints Committee of Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute organized a special programme titled “Empower through Expression – Ignite, Debate, Celebrate” in observance of International Women’s Day. The event was conducted on 6th March 2025 at the New CME Hall, bringing together faculty members, postgraduate students, and undergraduate medical students for an engaging and meaningful celebration.

The programme commenced with Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr. Indhu C., Presiding Officer of the Internal Complaints Committee. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. K. V. Rajasekar, Dean, who highlighted the significance of recognizing women’s contributions in academia, healthcare, and society. Dr. Kala, Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, introduced the Chief Guest for the event, Mrs. Malli Srinivas, Assistant District Governor, District Chair for Menstrual Health and Hygiene, Former President of Rotary Club of Chennai IT City, and a motivational speaker and life coach. The Chief Guest was felicitated by the Dean and Vice Principal.

Mrs. Malli Srinivas delivered an inspiring Women’s Day address, emphasizing empowerment, confidence, and the importance of open dialogue on issues affecting women. Her session also included an interactive segment where she engaged with the audience and addressed their questions.

As part of the celebrations, prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of various off-stage competitions conducted for teaching and non-teaching faculty and postgraduate students, as well as a poster competition for undergraduate students on the theme “Give to Gain.” An engaging debate session followed, featuring faculty members of MMCHRI, and was chaired by Dr. Namitha Bhuvaneswari, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology.

The programme also included a vibrant cultural segment presented by students and faculty, adding enthusiasm and celebration to the occasion. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Herosha, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, followed by the National Anthem.

The celebration served as a platform to recognize women’s achievements, encourage dialogue, and reinforce the importance of equality, empowerment, and collective progress in academic and healthcare environments.
