The ISO Committee of Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI) organized a thoughtful observance of World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM across the college and hospital campus. The event focused on raising awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastics on both human health and the environment.
The program commenced with an address by Dr. K. V. Rajasekhar, Dean, who spoke about the urgent need to eliminate single-use plastics and encouraged everyone to make conscious, eco-friendly choices. He highlighted the long-term environmental damage caused by plastic pollution and its indirect health risks to communities.Following this, Dr. V. Eswari, Vice Principal (Academics), led a pledge with students and faculty, committing to reduce the use of single-use plastics in their daily lives. This collective vow underscored the importance of individual responsibility in tackling environmental challenges. An awareness rally was then initiated by Dr. K. Boopathy, Medical Superintendent, with enthusiastic participation from students and staff. The rally aimed to engage the campus and nearby community in a conversation about sustainable living and alternatives to plastic use.To further reinforce the message, Dr. Shankar, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, and Dr. S. Saravana Kumar, ISO Coordinator, distributed awareness pamphlets to students, staff, and the public. These materials provided valuable information on the dangers of plastic pollution and practical ways to reduce dependency on disposable plastic products.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the environment. By raising awareness and encouraging practical steps toward reducing single-use plastics, the program inspired participants to adopt more sustainable habits and become active contributors to a healthier planet.
