MMCHRI Observes World Environment Day 2025 with Community Awareness Drive on Plastic Pollution

The ISO Committee of Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI), in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, organized a meaningful World Environment Day celebration on 3rd June 2025 at Kolivakkam village, Kanchipuram, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event aligned with this year’s global theme, “Combating Plastic Pollution,” and focused on promoting environmental responsibility and public health awareness within the rural community.

As part of the celebration, a cleanliness drive was conducted, followed by the distribution of eco-friendly cloth bags to residents. The team also led awareness sessions on the health and environmental risks posed by single-use plastics, using informative placards and public addresses to effectively engage the local population.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Shankar, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine; Dr. S. S. Saravana Kumar, ISO Coordinator of MMCHRI; and Dr. Sakthivel, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine. Their efforts demonstrated MMCHRI’s ongoing commitment to community outreach, sustainable practices, and preventive health education.

This initiative not only educated the public but also encouraged practical action, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in the fight against plastic pollution.
