MMCHRI Promotes Environmental Awareness through Green School Initiative

The Department of Community Medicine, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, MMCHRI, successfully conducted an LSDG-2 campaign titled “Green School Initiative: Plantation & Cleanliness Programme” at the Government High School, Karai, Kanchipuram District, on 23rd January 2026.

The programme aimed to instill environmental responsibility and sustainable practices among school students. As part of the initiative, a tree plantation drive was carried out within the school premises, emphasizing the importance of greenery and ecological balance. This was followed by an interactive awareness session on biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, highlighting waste segregation, responsible disposal, and environmental conservation.

To reinforce learning, students actively participated in practical demonstrations reflecting their understanding of waste management concepts. An essay writing competition was also organized to encourage creative expression and critical thinking on environmental themes, with prizes awarded to deserving participants.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and teachers, fostering environmental consciousness at the grassroots level and reinforcing the role of education in achieving sustainable development goals. The initiative concluded with a strong message on collective responsibility towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
