Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing (AMCON) observed National Librarian’s Day on 12th August 2025 at the AMCON Multipurpose Hall. The event began with a melodious invocation song by AMCON students, setting a solemn and respectful tone.
Dr. Prof. S. Victor Devasirvadam, Principal, AMCON, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of libraries and the enduring legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, who revolutionized modern library systems in the country.
Mrs. S. Elakiya, Library Assistant, spoke on the Importance of Books and Libraries. Mr. E. Prasanna Kumar, Associate Professor, introduced the Chief Guest, followed by Mr. Panchanathan, Librarian, who expressed his admiration for the Chief Guest, Dr. Prof. Vasantha Priya. A token of appreciation was presented to her by Mrs. S. Elakiya.
B.Sc. Nursing students delivered speeches on The Use of Libraries, while Dr. Prof. M. Raghavendran, Vice Principal, shared insights into the life and contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. Mr. Panchanathan elaborated on how Reading Books Can Change One’s Life.
Chief Guest Dr. Prof. Vasantha Priya, along with Mr. J. Shankar, Sub-Inspector of Police, Kanchipuram, addressed the gathering on Reading for the Promotion of Life.
As a mark of respect, faculty and students offered a floral tribute to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, honoring his immense contributions to India’s library system. The program concluded with the National Anthem.
