Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy observed National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) on 31st October 2025 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. The event aimed to promote national integration, reinforce the spirit of unity, and inspire students to uphold the ideals of integrity and national security.
The programme commenced with Thamizh Thai Vazhthu, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the Kuthuvilakku by the Chief Guest Group Captain E. R. Surendran (Retd.), along with Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal, faculty members, and other dignitaries.
Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran delivered the welcome address, highlighting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s vision and the significance of unity in building a strong and progressive nation. This was followed by a formal felicitation of the Chief Guest by Dr. Sagayaraj, Dean – Faculty of Arts and Sciences, who presented a shawl and plant as a token of respect and appreciation.
A brief introduction of the Chief Guest was presented, showcasing his distinguished service and leadership. In his keynote address, Group Captain E. R. Surendran (Retd.) delivered a powerful and inspiring message on national unity, discipline, and the pivotal role of youth in nation-building. He then administered the National Unity Day Pledge, reaffirming collective commitment to safeguard the unity and integrity of the nation.
The celebration continued with a heartfelt Tamil Kavithai recitation by Ms. Astalakshmi (BOT II Year) reflecting the theme of national unity. This was followed by impressive E-Poster presentations by undergraduate students, showcasing creative interpretations of India’s collective strength and harmony.
A thought-provoking debate competition on the topic “Is unity among youth a dream or reality?” witnessed enthusiastic participation from UG students, encouraging analytical thinking and healthy discussion on contemporary national challenges.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Bennett Benjamin Branson, Assistant Professor (OT), followed by the National Anthem, which instilled a deep sense of pride, patriotism, and unity among the gathering.
The National Unity Day celebration at Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy successfully highlighted the values of harmony, responsibility, and national pride, echoing the timeless vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for a united India.
