The NSS Unit of Meenakshi College of Nursing (MCON) organized an awareness program on Tuberculosis (TB) and the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) on 24th July 2025 at the Conference Hall, MCON.
The event commenced with Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, followed by a welcome address by Ms. Sailaja, B.Sc Nursing II Year. Mrs. R. Jebin Sherly, Associate Professor, MCON, delivered the keynote address emphasizing the significance of community involvement in disease prevention and control.
The awareness talk was presented by Mr. Raju Sundar, Health Educator, District TB Centre, Kanchipuram. He discussed in detail the signs, symptoms, treatment protocols, and preventive strategies related to Tuberculosis. He also highlighted the objectives of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program and the importance of Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS) in combating the disease.
Following the session, a pledge was taken by the students and faculty to raise awareness within the community and support TB elimination efforts. The event witnessed active participation from nearly 100 students and 8 faculty members. Mr. Bharath, B.Sc Nursing II Year, shared his feedback on the session, and the program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sandra, B.Sc Nursing II Year. The event ended with the National Anthem.
This initiative served as a timely reminder of the importance of collective action in addressing public health challenges.
