Republic Day Celebration with the Theme “150 Years of Vande Mataram” at Meenakshi College of Nursing

The NSS Unit of Meenakshi College of Nursing (MCON) observed Republic Day with pride and patriotic fervour on 26th January 2026 at 8.00 a.m. in the college playground. The celebration was organized with the special theme “150 Years of Vande Mataram,” highlighting the historical and national significance of the iconic song in India’s freedom movement.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Amirtha, B.Sc. (N) IV Year student, setting the tone for the day. This was followed by a disciplined march past by the NSS volunteers, reflecting their commitment, unity, and dedication to community service. The National Flag was hoisted by Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, Principal, MCON, marking a moment of pride and reverence.

In her Republic Day address, the Principal emphasized that India is a sovereign, secular, democratic republic, where ultimate authority rests with the people, underscoring the foundation of democratic governance. All NSS volunteers then took the pledge, reaffirming their commitment to uphold constitutional values and serve society responsibly.

The programme further featured Republic Day oratory speeches, delivered in English by Ms. Gloria Bakkiavathy and in Tamil by Ms. Navya, B.Sc. (N) I Year, adding intellectual depth and inclusivity to the celebration. A flag formation display by the students stood out as a visual highlight, symbolizing unity and national pride.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Jophil, B.Sc. (N) I Year, followed by the National Anthem at 9.15 a.m. A total of 55 NSS volunteers actively participated, making the observance meaningful and memorable.

The celebration reinforced patriotic values and inspired participants to contribute positively towards the nation and society.
