Seminar on “Importance of Women Empowerment & Gender Issues” at MFOP

The Internal Complaints Committee of Meenakshi Faculty of Pharmacy, Chennai, organized a thought-provoking seminar titled “Importance of Women Empowerment & Gender Issues” on 28th July 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:05 PM at the Seminar Hall. The event brought together faculty, students, and guests to engage in meaningful dialogue on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The program began with an invocation and the ceremonial lighting of the Kuthu Vilakku, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance through knowledge. Prof. Dr. D. Chamundeeswari, Principal of Meenakshi Faculty of Pharmacy, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the event.

Dr. L. Karpagavalli, Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutics, introduced the Chief Guest, Mrs. N. C. Kalaivani, Deputy Director cum Centre Head, State Career Guidance Centre, Guindy, Chennai. In her keynote address, Mrs. Kalaivani emphasized the significance of empowering women in all spheres of life and highlighted the broader socio-economic advantages of an inclusive society. She also shed light on support systems in place for women and children, including helpline numbers 182 and 1098.

The seminar featured an engaging interaction session where students and faculty discussed pressing gender-related challenges within academic and social contexts, promoting a culture of awareness and inclusivity.

Dr. K. K. Rajasekhar, Professor and Head of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker and all participants. The event concluded with the National Anthem, marking the end of a meaningful session.

The program was anchored by second-year B.Pharm students Ms. Sowmya and Ms. Yazhini, who served as Masters of Ceremony. The event was effectively organized with a modest expenditure of ₹1000.

This seminar served as a vital platform to educate, empower, and inspire students to become active contributors to a more equitable and just society.
