On April 28th , 2025, Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Vellore, visited Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing (AMCON) to conduct an awareness program on snakebite prevention, management, and first aid. The program was jointly organized by the Student Nurses Association (SNA) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) units of AMCON.
The event commenced with the Tamizh Thai Vazhthu, followed by a welcome address by Mrs. M. Sunithadevi,Tutor, AMCON. A four-member team from the Toxicology Department (Poison Control Centre) of CMC, Vellore, led the seminar. They introduced the topic with an informative video, highlighting the causes, dangers, and necessary responses to snakebites.
The team conducted detailed sessions on snakebite prevention strategies and first aid measures, including live demonstrations by experienced Nurse Educators. To ensure effective participation and learning, the B.Sc. Nursing students were divided into three groups of 100 students each. Each session was interactive, with students’ queries addressed thoroughly by the educators.
Informational pamphlets featuring prevention guidelines, first aid procedures, and a toll-free emergency number were distributed to all attendees. The session concluded with feedback from the students and attendees, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. G. Asha Rani, Assistant Professor, AMCON.
