The Faculty of Occupational Therapy celebrated World Autism Awareness Day/Month on April 3rd 2024. A total of 120 students participated in this event. The event began with the Tamil Thai vazhthu followed by a Welcome address by Dr.Deepa Sundareswaran. The chief guest for the day was Dr.Subramanian.S, Developmental Pediatrician, Co-founder & Director, Smrithi Health care, Nishta Integrated Neuro Development Centre, (Chennai) and Ramana Rehabilitation centre (Trichy) who shared his expertise about Autism Spectrum Disorder. The students of FOT showcased various events like Mime, dance, speech and kavithai. Dr Krishnageetha.N, Assistant Professor, FOT spoke about the common myths and facts of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The event ended with prize distribution for the winners of various competitions conducted following World Autism Awareness Day.
The afternoon session had a webinar by Dr Jayashree Shanbal, Head of Department, Speech and Language Pathology, AIISH, on the topic “Social Pragmatic issues in Autism Spectrum Disorder”.
